AI and Trust Infrastructure

AI is changing how decisions are made, how information is processed and how transactions take place.

As AI systems become more autonomous, trust cannot depend solely on the identity of the system or the person operating it. We need ways to establish what information can be relied upon, what actions are permitted, what processes have been followed and who is accountable for the outcome.

Gwirio is exploring how Trust Infrastructure can support AI by providing greater process oversight, assurance and auditability across AI-enabled workflows.

Open questions

Areas we are exploring

Process oversight

How can we establish that an AI-enabled process followed the required rules, policies and controls?

Trustworthy information

How can AI systems determine whether information being used in a decision can be relied upon?

Authority and permission

How can we establish what an AI agent or digital system is authorised to do?

Audit pathways

How can decisions and actions be traced through the relevant information, authorities, rules and processes?

Accountability

When an automated system makes a decision or takes an action, how do we establish what happened and who or what was responsible?

Trusted outcomes

How can systems exchange the outcome of a trusted process without unnecessarily exchanging all of the underlying information?

These are areas we are actively exploring.

Our research is intended to contribute to the wider conversation about how trust should work in an increasingly automated digital world.
