When people talk about trust, they usually mean confidence. A belief that someone will do what they promised, or a reputation earned over time. That isn't what this series is about.
This series looks at trust as infrastructure—a shared capability that allows organisations, people, systems and AI to make better decisions before information is processed or transactions take place.
Trust in information that can add value, limit abuse and strengthen economic growth whilst serving privacy.
Consider what we have already turned into infrastructure.
Electricity.
Communications.
Cloud computing.
Payment networks.
Identity.
We have not yet turned Trust into Infrastructure.
There's a simple test, If every organisation still has to build the same capability independently, it probably isn't infrastructure yet. I believe we are close to needing trust as infrastructure.
Every organisation still performs its own verification, stores its own evidence, maintains its own policies and repeats work that another trusted organisation has often already completed.
Trust Infrastructure is the shared digital capability that allows trust to be established once, exchanged where appropriate, and relied upon by others without rebuilding the same decision every time.
That's the idea this series explores.
